Kappa Kappa Psi is an honorary fraternity for college bandmembers. We exist to serve the bands and to honor those bandmembers who strive for the highest by extending an offer of membership.
Any member of the Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Orchestra, “Pride of Indiana” Marching Sycamores, or Jazz Ensemble who has completed a full semester in a college band and who maintains a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA is eligible for membership in Kappa Kappa Psi.
Kappa Kappa Psi operates as a service and leadership recognition society. We are tasked with organizing and executing service projects for the university’s bands and creating a pleasant and helpful social experience for all involved in the bands. Through these activities, we develop a strong sense of brotherhood and purpose.
Service is at the heart of what Kappa Kappa Psi does. We believe that “it is an honor to be selected to serve” our bands, our School of Music, our University, and the cause of band music in the nation’s colleges and universities. At ISU, we have hemmed uniforms, repaired and stenciled music stands, provided apples and water for the Marching Sycamores at all home football games, provided treat bags for basketball bands traveling to the Missouri Valley Conference Tournaments and NCAA Tournament, and provided ushers and receptions for all concerts by the university’s three wind bands—and that just scratches the surface.
Brothers of Kappa Kappa Psi are no strangers to leadership. We are the leaders of our bands and beyond—Neil Armstrong, the first man to set foot on the Moon, was a brother of Kappa Kappa Psi, as was President Bill Clinton. At Indiana State, twenty-eight of the thirty-six drum majors since the Lambda Lambda chapter was started have been members of the Fraternity. Many brothers have been recognized for their leadership by our band directors, their student organizations, and by the university.
Through all of these experiences and our shared values, we are brought together as brothers, joined by a fraternal bond that links us to thousands of men and women across the country and especially to our brothers at Indiana State.
Are you ready to join the most prestigious fraternity in the college band world? We look forward to seeing you at our next recruitment events!
